Ahh the end of the Winter season. A meaningless night of hockey. No movement in the standings.
Good Morning. How is everyone feeling. I know I am a bit sore today. I cannot say it was playoff atmosphere on the ice last night. Yet, a couple of low scoring games. Defense and goalies were the order of the day in games one and 2. Manville Pizza's goalie, don't know his name, but it wasn't Baro. In any case Manville Pizza was up 1 to zip for most of this contest. Midway through the first Mark Kosinski figured out the puzzle that was Mike Dussault between the pipes. A daunting task that would not be solved again until the third again. In the third, Votta Properties would break the egg on their side and tie it up. I think it was Richie Dias and his speed being quicker. He lost five pounds of hair recently. The jubilation would be short as MPP's Ryan Degnan put the pizza on top once again. You know how often pulling the goalie works? 15% of the time, pulling a goalie works with a one goal deficit. It falls to less than 1% on a two goal deficit. We will talk about this later in the article. Right Garret Reilly? Any who, this one was the 15%. Junior was pulled and Raf Manzo took the puck to the net and scored as the puck crawled over the right pad of the goal keeper and dropped in the bucket. 42 seconds on the clock and Votta drained the time to keep it a tie. 2-2.
Game 2. The teams with the coolest unis, were out there together. Edge Doctor and Quick Dam. Yep, this was a good one. Did you want to hear about it? Fine. Here we go. Most of the first was back and forth. Goalies performing admirably. Steve Wolk in for Martins on the Edge side and Quick Dams mainstay and sponsor, Mark Shiavone in between the pipes for Quick Dam. It took most of the first to get a goal in the books. Richie Dias put it top shelf in his second game of the evening. That short hair keeps him from being weighed down and he doesn't get as tired. In the second, ricochet rabbit, Shannon Caverly's shot made it to the back of the net, putting Edge Doctor up by 2. In the third, Quick Dam got on the board 4 minutes in with a goal by Marc O'Connor. It would not be enough as Edge Doc held there ground, in large part by Kevin Bartels and his timely blocking and chipping away at the puck to thwart the competition. In the end 2-1 Edge Doctor.
And now, here we go. The Final Touch and their juggernaut of a team. Keeping themselves in first place. Like that was even a conversation. Can you hear my eyes roll. Frank Zabatta beat Vescera Law. Although he was a bit upset over the second goal. If you saw it, you would be too. In the first it was 1-0 Final Touch. Goal by whoever was wearing 11. Sorry whoever that was. In the second, Vescera Law would tie the game. Not sure who did it. But whatever. And then it was Final Touch with 5 unanswered goals. So, it was Garret Reilly, then Brian Beck, Reilly, Beck and then 11. Vescera would get that second goal, as someone fumbled the puck in front of Frank. Rob Edleman was there to slap it in. Remember when I talked about the percentage of pulling the goalie. Chances are 15% of the time with a one goal deficit, it works. With a 4 goal deficit, Garret Reilly scores to get his hat trick. So, there you go. The final score, Final Touch 7-2.
Lets talk about the playoffs. Ha. Playoffs. The second season. Final Touch has the by. The first game will be MPP versus Votta, I assume, unless Ricky wants the second game. That is his option. in any case. The second game will be Green Goddess versus Quick Dam. And finally, Vescera Law versus Edge Doctor. The Playoffs are in 2 weeks kids. Lets get healthy.
