First Round action did not disappoint !!!
Nerves were on edge. The electricity of Playoffs was in the air. The crowd was not there, but we felt there presence. The long part of the season ended last week. Last night was the start of the playoff season. Some would extend, others would pack it in for the summer.
In game one, Edge Doctor and Green Goddess, Blue Vs. Green. It was quite a game. Through the first period, it was the chess match you thought it would be, no goals but lots of action. Both Mike Dussault and Frank Zabatta, faced a barrage of shots and stood on their heads. The second, the Goddess cracked the code. Brian Cormier with the back door goal from Steve Owens lit the fuse. Cormier would figure in the next goal with the assist to Peter Meegan. As late as you can get in the second, a bit of a miss play on the edge, turned a late opportunity to a goal against. I believe it was Jared Martin scoring from the opposite side of the blue line. Although Frank Zabatta is credited with the goal. Undaunted, Edge Doctor managed 2 unanswered in the third, Kevin Keenan, a mid season acquisition, muscled his way through the defense and put the puck in the net. A minute later, Andy Morrison would get stealthy to the net and just beat Zabatta. Now it is a game. As you do, a late pull of the goalie, allowed Mike Thomas to get the empty netter, putting the dagger in the Doctors season. 4-2.
Game 2 The purple of Votta Properties against the orange of Quick Dam. Two power houses of the league. In the first it would go in favor of Votta. Early in the contest Votta would notch a goal by Richie Dias from Somerset Massachusetts. Midway through, Purple would strike again with Al Whitton notching the goal. Before the end of the first Neil Yee from Quick Dam, would cut the lead in half with a late one, Derek Franco on the helper. On to Period 2. An early goal by Quick Dam would tie this one. Neil Yee off the face off, took it down and put er in da net. Ricky Votta would take his team on his back and regain the lead within a minute of the tie. 2 minutes later, Kreg Labelle would get what would turn out to be the game winner. Quick Dam would not go away however, an early goal in the third by Jimmy Meegan from Larry Lefebvre. Votta Properties' Tommy Martins, would hold the fort and preserve the win. 4-3.
And the last game of the first playoff round. Final Touch and Vescera Law. Vescera came out swinging. Steve Lombardi had the first goal within a minute of the contest. Another one less than 2 minutes later. Shane McCormick would get the next one at the 5 minute mark. In the Second, Steve and Shane would get one a piece. This is a fearsome, twosome. The rest of Vescera, what are you doing? Actually, Raf Manzo and Ed Cardoso would also get assists. Final Touch was not going to go away that easily. In the third, 2 goals in a minute. One by Derek Anderson from Glen Marshall. Then Glen would get one with Derek's help. a minute and a half later Glen would score another, making it 5-3. Unfortunately, for Final Touch, that was that was the final score. Vescera Law would go onto win.
Playoffs do not disappoint. These were awesome games. Hard work by all out there. Love Hockey and the Playoffs. Good Luck to the teams tonight.
See you in the summer!
