The Playoffs do not disappoint!

August 8, 2026

I walked into the rink tonight and unfortunately our friend Tommy Martins was down and out in the crease. Hope you are ok Tommy. With the Heat Lightning last night, it was already getting weird. Then I realized it was Ricky Votta's anger due to his teams game result.

Let's get into it. Suffice it to say, Ben Hevner is in playoff mode. He scored 2 hat tricks to basically win the game for Green Goddess against the top team all season. Votta had had a great season, culminating in the first game of the season not going their way. Goddess got this going early and often. it was 7-0 heading into the third. Votta did manage 4 goals, but it was very much over at that point. Goddess moves on to next week. 8-4.

Game 2 was a rock fight, a barn burner a a a a. Well whatever. Edge Doctor took a 2-0 lead with 2 goals in the first. Jay Lombardi started the scoring and Steve Albertelli making his presents known with the second. Unfortunately as the game got going in the second, Tommy Martins saved a goal and pulled his groin, according to reports. When Play resumed, Shane McShane Shane McCormick got the Law on the board. Later, Jonathan Murphy, would that be Murphy's Law? I digress, Got the game tied. On an aside, 9 penalties in this one. The refs said, it could have been more. I was like no shit. I saw plenty that didn't get called. Ok back to the action. Albertelli got another to get the lead back for the Edge and then another by Edge. In the early part of the third, both goals scored by Shane. And then we had the overtime but that didn't do nothing. So Shootout? Yep, Shoot out. Shane got his team up. Vescera to start the dance. Edge got 2 and it was over. Jay Arruda to move them on. Woot woot. Ok, so that was fun. Edge wins 6-5. Or 4-4 and a shoot out win. However that works.

With all that how do we ever get to this next game and not wonder if they just don't score a lot and keep it close, they are both in. And that is what happened. The scoring came in the second. Before we get to that, the freaking goal tending, especially by Frank Zabatta, Was amazing. Mark Clarkin was also in Playoff form, he made the saves that he needed to make. Ok, second period, Kreg LaBelle did not disappoint and got Quick Dam on the board. Unfortunately, big answer by Manville's Jeremey Lawton. Jeez Louise. Then a third and a fourth period. Then a shootout. Lawton and Mike Bragan with goals. Kreg for the Dam. In the end, both move on to the playoffs and play each other again. PHEW.

Ok, tonight, if you are in the area, The Underground featuring Eric Robichaud and Yours truly will be at Hometown Tavern 8:30 to Midnight. Let's do this.

Otherwise, See you next week.
