Winding down and losing an hour

March 9, 2024

Happy Saturday in March. March comes in like a Lion and Out like a Lamb. Or so they say. St. Patricks day is right around the corner. The clocks get set ahead one hour. Losing time babies. Also, ides of March. That was the day they murdered Ceaser on the senate floor. 'Et Tu Brute'.

Let's get into the action.

Edge Doctor versus Vescera Law. Despite their efforts in a hard fought game, Edge could not get the edge or a goal. Mark Clarkin with the shutout. Vescera's vaunted talent, Steve Lombardi would light this fire cracker, getting a third shift goal, with the help of Shane McCormick and Rob Edelman. Late and I mean late in the first, Shane would hook up Steve again and make it 2-0. In the second, Lombardi would complete the sombrero with his third and it was from Shane and the B/D player to be named later. In the third, Shane would be rewarded for his unselfishness and got on the board with Edelman. And that is all she wrote. 4-0 Vescera Law.

In game 2 Manville Pizza up against Final Touch. This is for the Presidents Trophy. Spoiler: Pizza Clinched It. Great game though. You should of seen it. I didn't see much of it, just the end. It was cool. Yeah. In the first Final Touch had the lead 2-1. Glen Marshall with a couple. One set up by Shannon Caverly. The other was a loaner. On the Pizza side, Ryan Degnan from Mark Kosinski, yep ole white gloves, got the Pizza rising. Bobby Jordan setting it up as well with a little hockey 101. In the second, the evil empire would get 2. One from white gloves and one from whomever was wearing Keith's old jersey. Jack Babineau with the set up along with Degnan. In the third, Dan Dussault, the captain, putting the team on his back and making a game winner and a season clincher. Late in the period, Final Touch would get a goal and then ruin any chance for a tying one. You know what happened right? They got a penalty. Bummer eh. In the end it was MPP with the 4-3 win.

In the late game, Votta Properties versus Quick Dam. Quick Dam has come into their own in the past few weeks. As a matter of fact, they are on a 5 game win streak. Watch these folks in the playoffs, they are the upstarts. In the first, Votta was in the drivers seat with 2 goals. Richie Dias and Steve Donavan with the goals. Ole Yella socks Ray got the assist on Richie's goal. Richie going back door. Oh Behave. Donavan with the lollipop. In the second, Quick Dam made quick work of tying the game. One from Derek Antunes and one from Richie LaPlante. Both almost repeated. Tunes was a bit frustrated. Heard his stick cracking the boards on the second goal attempt. In the third, it was Quick Dam with 2 goals, one from Neil Yee and the clincher from Larry Lefebvre. Larry took me to task on my lack of reporting last week. Probably wanted to see his name in print. Here you go. Less weak this week. In the end it was Quick Dam 4-2.

Standings tell it all. Looks like we have a clincher for first and second. Manville and Goddess. Votta is likely to be in third, but Vescera Law could jump over Votta with a win over Final Touch. If final Touch wins, they will have the tie breaker for fourth. Vescera will be ranked in 5th and Quick Dam gets 6th. If Final Touch Loses and Quick Dam wins, Quick Dam gets Fifth and Final Touch gets Sixth. Check the math, but I am quite sure Edge Doctor clinches 7th. And also, the other math, I might be wrong. I am sure Junior and Peter will help me with this.

If you are interested in playing this summer, please give a deposit of $150 to Jim Gallagher. The cost for the season is $400. Goalies $275.

I want to personally thank Ben Dussault for filling in for GrandPa Senior Mike. Great Job on the clock and the score sheets. Swear count and No No Word counts were up this week. Hand writing has gotten way better. I don't have to guess. Thanks BEN!!!

IN OTHER NEWS. Apparently, they enforcing the alcohol policy on the Saturday playoff night March 23rd. No alcohol in the rink or parking lot. What everloving shit is that.

Loose Screws, Featuring Richie Dias is at Ying Dynasty Tonight. 8PM. If you haven't heard the angelic vocals of our long haired hippy goal scorer, you are missing out.

Hope everyone has a great week.
